Our first day in Melbourne was hectic, as I was 😓 tired and a little cranky. After checking into the hotel, we decided to go for a walk. Neil, who is very thoughtful, had researched and found an opal shop nearby and surprised me with that. We visited @lighting_ridge_opal_mines and learned a lot about the variety of opals here in Australia 🇦🇺 After a light lunch, we hit the very crowded streets. I’ve been on a crowded street or two in my day, but Melbourne on a Saturday beats them all. People were walking 4-5 astride on the sidewalks and never even thought about moving in for oncoming foot traffic. We have never seen anything like it before. And it wasn’t once or twice, it was constant. Don’t get it. Day two -Sunday- the tour group had a 1/2 day city tour. It was better than the maddening crowds. A little of the churches, a little city tour, and a stop at the market. Tomorrow’s the big day where we get to spend time with wildlife and end the day with the penguins 🐧 So excited.
