Today was a very, very special day as we had the results from the election last night, and we could sleep in. We were expected at the ship by 4:30ish, for a sail away at 6:30pm, which was magical.
After a restful night we had a leisurely breakfast. Everyone in our group, with the exception of Mr and Mrs. “Groupy hands”, had an early morning flight. It really was magical as we left the hotel at 10:10am, walked with our bags to the terminal, left the luggage, checked in, waited 15-20 minutes and were on the ship by 10:50. They really have their shit together at the Sydney terminal.
Once Neil confirmed that the ship was where we expected it to be, we left for the terminal.
On the ship, we walked each level to get a lay of the land. Never had we been on a ship with a grassy area and kind of surprised that Dee (my sister) didn’t mention it when she was on this ship earlier this year in Alaska. It’s really cool, with verandas to rent, etc.
We lunched, continued to explore, unpacked, and generally chilled. We are in the Aqua Class, which on Celebrity means that we have access to a dining area that has fewer calories, and is healthier, as well as spa services.
We spent ‘sail away’ in the forward bar. This harbor is the busiest I have ever seen, and sail away was stunning, as the captain slowly maneuvered though hundreds of boats. If you recall the pic of the harbor from the air that I posted, you can imagine how busy it is.
We got to our dining room, Blu, pretty late, at 8:10, but were promptly seated. The gentleman seated next to us quickly introduced himself. He went to Jamaica High School in Queens NY, left NYC at 17, in 1947, for California. He looked much younger than his 88 years and is quite energetic. Spent his working days as a pharmacist, married an RN, and they live in a country club community outside San Diego. Lovely couple. I was a bit disappointed in dinner as the snapper was quite dry, but perhaps I am overly critical considering all the great places we eat at in Portland. After dinner we did the martini 🍸 bar, ran into Marvin, made friends with several of the bartenders. The ship has a great crew. They do seem very jovial and it seems to come from the top, as the captain 👨✈️ has a great sense of humor. Makes for a good time. Tomorrow, Friday, is a full day at sea.
