Today’s tour was the first one that we booked, and probably should have skipped it. We did it on our own, without the group we have been traveling with. We booked it through a local company, Anderson Tours. Although it was a small group, like about 15, it was the most uncomfortable van I have ever been in. The first seat that I picked was a single over the wheel well. After our first stop, and speaking with the driver/guide, she pointed out an empty seat 💺 with little leg room. I didn’t mind as I have little legs. Well, evidently, I got in the middle of a family feud. The 20ish year old daughter wanted to sit next to mom (the seat I was in) but mom didn’t want to sit next to her. The last thing I wanted on our last day in Australia 🇦🇺 This was going to be a looooong 11 hour tour.
The blue Mountains aren’t really blue, but they appear blue because of all of the eucalyptus trees. They claim to have 2/3rds of all of the eucalyptus trees in the world.
After a short bathroom break, we went to Scenic World, where, to be brutally honest, I felt was better for children than adults. It was a tour that had you on a gondola for like 10 minutes, then on a train, for like 5 minutes, then a 40 minute walk through the forest, only to end up on another vehicle to get to the canopy again, Yes, it was a unique way to see the rain forest, no doubt, but they had plastic dinosaurs, and fake sounds throughout it, which made it a bit cheesy, for me. Plus, our tour guide didn’t have a voice that traveled, and didn’t seem to care if you heard her explanation or not. She led the group and should have come from behind. This is what 19 days of touring does to you….it makes you critical of everything. Like I said, we should have skipped today
After a truly great lunch, we made our way back to Sydney and went to a wildlife sanctuary, where it was pretty much the same as before.
In the evening the group had a farewell dinner and all went our separate ways. Anja, the tour director and about 15 people were off to New Zealand, us and one other couple are off to the cruise ship 🚢 to New Zealand, the foursome from Marlborough are off to Fiji 🇫🇯 and the rest are headed home. On to the next chapter.
